CASE STUDY: Adaptation of an MOD property for the wife of a serving soldier
The Home Straight was contacted by the MOD to recommend adaptations to one of their properties in Leuchars to allow a serving soldier’s wife who suffered with Fibromyalgia to live independently.
“Thanks to The Home Straight, I was able to join my husband and get around the house without help”
The Home Straight team assisted the soldier’s wife by:
- Undertaking a full assessment of her needs
- Answered all her the queries and those made by the MOD
- Compiled a detailed report for the MOD’s contractor recommending the installation of a stair lift, ramped access at the front door and the fitting of lever taps to all sinks, wash hand basins and the bath
- Attended a joint visit with the stair lift rep to ensure the stair lift discussed, met the wife’s needs
- Made a referral to the local authority Occupational Therapy service for a trial of an inflatable bath cushion
As a result of help from The Home Straight the soldier’s wife is now:
- Able to get up/down the stairs independently
- Able to get in/out of the house without help as a result of the new ramped access
- Able to bathe independently without disruption to the rest of the family
- Has improved quality of life as a result of adaptations provided and independence regained
